Recognizing the pressing need for accessible higher education, the Janata Education Co-operative Society (now known as Janata Shikshana Souharda Sahakari Niyamita, Hangal) established Shri Kumareshwar Arts and Commerce College in July 1980, thereby laying the foundation for academic transformation in the region. The institution became grant-in-aid by the official approval by the State Government of Karnataka in 1986. The institution had been affiliated to Karnataka University of Dharwad since its inception and since 2023-24 the college was included in affiliated institutions of newly opened Haveri university of Haveri.
This visionary initiative was undertaken under the spiritual guidance of Late Shri Ma. Ni. Pra. Sadashiva Swamiji of Viraktamath, Hangal. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Late Shri Manohar Tahasildar, then MLA and Hon’ble former Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The college was established through generous contributions in the form of land and monetary donations from local philanthropists, political leaders, and community patrons.
